End-to-end UX design for an internal Fleet Management System, transforming a large corporation’s branch delivery network from a low-visibility operation into a data-driven system. The initiative focused on creating a centralized platform for real-time tracking and operational intelligence. A high-fidelity, interactive prototype was developed to validate the concept and secure executive buy-in for a pilot program.
Role
UX Designer
Project base
NDA Project
Project duration
4 Weeks
Problem
The company lacked visibility into its fleet operations, leading to high fuel costs, unpredictable delivery times, and an inability to monitor driver safety.
Target User
Through stakeholder interviews, two primary user archetypes for the system were identified.
Operations Manager
Needed consolidated data to reduce costs and improve delivery reliability, but was stuck with manual reports.
Fleet Dispatcher
Required real-time vehicle data to manage daily assignments, but relied on phone calls and outdated spreadsheets.
Outcome & Impact
Stakeholder alignment and user experience validation were achieved through a high-fidelity interactive prototype.
Secured Pilot Approval
The high-fidelity prototype translated complex requirements into a tangible vision, directly securing stakeholder buy-in for the next phase.
De-risked Development
Usability testing with users provided prioritized insights. For example, user confusion with a complex data filter led to a simplified redesign, directly informing the pilot’s development roadmap.
Reflection & Learnings
This project was a powerful lesson in designing for complex systems and stakeholder management.
Prioritizing Information Hierarchy
User testing quickly revealed that showcasing all data was overwhelming. The focus shifted to surfacing critical live data (location/alerts) while making secondary metrics easily accessible, not dominant.
Designing for Scalability
Architecting a system for one branch with a national rollout in mind necessitated a scalable design system and flexible components from the outset.
